Product Description

The importance of practising yoga while living in fast-paced cities.

Yoga faces the twin problems of Westernisation and commercialisation. The practice today, in its multitude of forms, has significantly shifted from that practised by only men in India millennia ago.

As teacher training courses around the world are rolled out like exercise workshops, and some instructors approach yoga more as a sport than a philosophy, some say yoga has lost its fire, becoming more a business and less a practice.

Still, regardless of the form, getting on a mat has many benefits. A critical one is that it helps open up practitioners to yoga’s original aim of heightening our awareness and focus and creating unity with the outside world. Yoga is growing fast among Western city dwellers – which is very much a good thing for the collective consciousness, considering our fastpaced lives.

Here we feature four recognised and dedicated yogis, sharing their thoughts on life, yoga and living in the city. Although most now enjoy more tranquil existences, they have all at some point lived in fastpaced cities.
