Elora Hardy grew up in a beautiful world and she hopes to keep it that way.
The founder and Creative Director of Ibuku often talks about her magical Balinese childhood. Her parents (jewellery designers John and Cynthia Hardy) encouraged her to design her own clothes, make glass jewellery, and famously asked her to draw her ideal home. When she drew a fairy mushroom house, they built it for her.
Echoes of that childhood dreamtime reverberate through her work today.
I’m standing in the kitchen of Sharma Springs, one of Ibuku’s key projects situated in Green Village, a masterplanned community of unique homes. A one-of-a-kind structure designed for the Sharma family as a jungle fantasy escape, this four-bedroom, six-level house overlooks the terraced slopes of the Ayung River in Sibang Bali. And it’s made almost entirely of bamboo.
